Smoke & Mirrors: The Swan
High Definition Holographic Film Installation, 2011

‘Smoke & Mirrors’ is a series of holographic film installations that explore the attraction of the pure aesthetic.  The films play to the audiences natural desire to look, in order to derive pleasure from their seemingly active gaze (Scopophilia).  It manipulates these signifiers of pleasure – the image as spectacle – to reveal the inherent fallacy of these sublime images.

Each of the films are exhibited using Musion’s Eyeliner system – a high definition holographic video projection screen allowing spectacular 3-dimensional moving images to appear within a live stage setting using Peppers Ghost technology – and focuses on the nature of the image existing as pure movement, its intrinsic deception and the lure of its disavowal, to reveal the true nature of the illusion, its inherent paradoxes and the enchanting nature of seduction.

‘The Swan’, is the second film in the holographic film series and was performed by the international showgirl and cabaret director Roxy Velvet. The film installation was exhibited at Kinetica Art Fair 2011, as part of the Musion Academy Showcase.
