Smoke & Mirrors

High Definition Holographic Film Installation Series

Smoke & Mirrors is a series of holographic film installations that explore the attraction of the pure aesthetic. Working in collaboration with international Burlesque Performer, Roxy Velvet, the films play to the audiences natural and inherent desire to look, in order to derive pleasure from their seemingly active gaze (scopophilia). It manipulates these signifiers of pleasure - the image as spectacle - to reveal the inherent fantasy of these sublime images.

Each of the films were exhibited using Musion’s Eyeliner System - a high definition holographic video projection, allowing spectacular 3-dimensional moving images to appear within a live stage setting using Peppers Ghost technology – and focuses on the nature of the image existing as pure movement, its intrinsic deception and the lure of its disavowal; to reveal the true nature of the illusion, its inherent paradoxes and the enchanting nature of seduction.

The Magician

The Magician was the first film in the holographic film series was exhibited as part of the Holographic Serendipity showcase at Shunt, to celebrate the opening of the New Shunt Lounge, London Bridge Tunnels, London, May 2010.
